Share a challenge that you have faced (big or small). How did you handle the challenge? How did you grow from it?
I faced the challenge of unexpectedly having panic attacks in class I handled the situation by explaining to my teacher what was going on and together we came up with a signal that would let me take a 5 minute breather to calm down. I grew from that by learining how to better communicate when struggling

Do you have any previous leadership experience? If so, please explain. If not, please explain why.
Yes, I have a multitude of previous leadership experience. I am currently this year's class of 2023 president. Furthermore, I am apart of Kealakehe's Key Club council as the 2022 vice president, and the 2023 secretary. I created the Bahay Pinoy Club as a way to share my culture to students on campus, and last but not least, I am a member of the Hawaii Youth Food Council.

What function does Kealakehe ASB serve on our campus?
I firmly believe that Kealakehe's ASB is an opportunity to have student's voices to be heard, as well as a group that plans activities for everyone on our campus to enjoy. ASB brings our students, teachers, and staff together through the activities that they hold.

Why do you want to be in ASB? What skills, talents, or qualifications do you have that would contribute to ASB?
ASB is an opportunity for students' voices to be heard within our campus, and being able to advocate for those who want to be heard is the primary reason why I want to be apart of the 2023 ASB. I am responsible, organized, and open-minded to ideas, and these qualifications will open for more ideas, more thoroughly planned and organized activities, and tons of fun within our campus.

One challenge that I have faced is my father having cancer. I think that this being such a shocker for me I felt lost and confused, but I made sure to surround myself with people who will be there for me and support me. My dad is now cancer free and because of this challenge, I have grown to love and hold people close to me, because we never know what could happen. And I give back to my friends by assuring them that I am here to support them as well!

Throughout my high school experience I have realized that i am a very big procrastinator when it comes to projects and the night before the project was due I had to stay up until 3am to finish it. From this I learned its better to just work on small bits of the project each day so it doesn't feel so overwhelming trying to finish it in one sitting and i have gotten better at managing my time for projects/homework
Class of 2023 Secretary
Ordona, Jahnea

Do you have any previous leadership experience? If so, please explain. If not, please explain why.
I participated and won first place in our state for the SkillsUSA competition, which teaches and spreads leadership values for youths. I constantly lead in group projects within my classes from minor class projects to student-led opportunities such as the AEC Tiny House project. I helped co-create the Bahay Pinoy Club to share filipino culture and appreciation throughout our whole school. Last but not least, I lead our chairman's team in our robotics club.

What function does Kealakehe ASB serve on our campus?
To me, ASB is a wonderful opportunity for students not only to learn important leadership, cooperation, and other skills valuable for students to learn before entering higher education or the workforce, but also to allow student voices to be heard in a community that helps shape their lives. It shows youths that we have the power to change and make breakthroughs to benefit our own education.

Why do you want to be in ASB? What skills, talents, or qualifications do you have that would contribute to ASB?
I want to be in ASB because I firmly believe that my skills in organization, documentation, cooperation and more will help bring stability and encourage open-minding thinking and discussion within the council and help generate better ideas and innovation for students now and in the future.

One challenge I faced was working on the Chairman's portion of our robotics club. This part of robotics deals with documenting and describing important achievements and innovations within our robotics team, and how we spread the message of being "more than robots." This includes writing an essay, manufacturing a video, and talking to judges in order to convince them to support us. At first, leading Chairmans was a difficult ordeal -- we were barely prepared and was not provided with much direction, leading into a half-baked presentation. However, in the next two following regionals, my team and I worked tirelessly to improve our presentation, documents, and more in order to win. Although we did not win the Chairman's award by the end of our last regional, our hard work and effort put into this project helped build a final result that we, and especially I, were proud of.
