Barker, Jaylea

Yes I do, I have went to multiple leadership programs, NYLF, and I have also been on council fro 2 years now.
What function does Kealakehe ASB serve on our campus?
it allows us to plan amazing events for everyone on campus as well as being able to be a line of communictaion between the students and teachers.
Why do you want to be in ASB? What skills, talents, or qualifications do you have that would contribute to ASB?
I want to be in ASB bcause i like being able to plan cool events for my school and being able to be really inclusive in everything. I am a very outgoing talkative person, and i think its important because it helps to be a people person.
Share a challenge that you have faced (big or small). How did you handle the challenge? How did you grow from it?
moving here was a big challenge for me, because it was halfway into my 7th grade year and it was the week of my birthday, and my life was just not going right and I had to find the positives and I did, I made friends I found the good things and it helped me grow by showing me that even though things can be going terrible and you think everything is going wrong you can turn it around you can find the good.

ELLLOOOOO :D I am currently in my grade's student body and I am part of the headshot intensive photography director to where I am responsible to take everyone's photo :D
What function does Kealakehe ASB serve on our campus?
ASB serve as a representation and holding responsibility of showing school spirit, academically, and respect throughout all portions of our school.
Why do you want to be in ASB? What skills, talents, or qualifications do you have that would contribute to ASB?
I believe humbly that I am able to communicate with others logically and with PASSION!! I have connections with yearbook, therefore, we can portray and represent everyone in our school + ideas! :)
Share a challenge that you have faced (big or small). How did you handle the challenge? How did you grow from it?
I honestly had trouble with finding what success meant to me. I thought that receiving the best grades, academic validation, and pursuing certain subjects because they were deemed "useful" would provide the term of success. I then realized that success is driven through passion and others, not what is deemed as successful.

yes I do have leadership experience because i am a role model for my siblings & they follow my advice because they have improved on a lot of things because of me. I have also been a role model to my friends because they also have improved a lot of what i have said to them & what i suggested them.
What function does Kealakehe ASB serve on our campus?
Kealakehe ASB puts out student ideas & teachers concerns. They listen to our school communities concerns & questions & they provide a fun environment for us.
Why do you want to be in ASB? What skills, talents, or qualifications do you have that would contribute to ASB?
I want to be in ASB because I want to try different things & I feel like it would be good for me to put things out there for us Waveriders. Some skills I have for ASB are: business skills , learning skills, role model skills, advice skills.
Share a challenge that you have faced (big or small). How did you handle the challenge? How did you grow from it?
A challenge that I faced was this year & somebody started drama for me & it went on for quite a long time, it took me little bit of time to get over it & push myself forward from this challenge. I handled this challenge by talking to this person, seeing what happened & why he wanted to make this challenge for me. I grew from this challenge because I realized a lot of things during this challenge & a lot of it helped me grow from it.

The ASB contributes by adding creative and inventive ways to help and entertain other students and improving school
Why do you want to be in ASB? What skills, talents, or qualifications do you have that would contribute to ASB?
I want to join the ASB to improve and reform the school with suggestions that can help the community
Share a challenge that you have faced (big or small). How did you handle the challenge? How did you grow from it?
A challenge that I endured was when I had to move in tiles that were more than 100 pounds in are house for renovations It was super difficult to do but my father gave me the pep talk which motivated me to finish moving these heavy tiles in the house.

Do you have any previous leadership experience? If so, please explain. If not, please explain why.
I have not previously served on a student council because I witnessed firsthand their powerlessness when it came to actually getting things done. As an outsider to student council politics, I understand the concerns of the people and have stood side by side with them. I have decided to throw my hat into the arena to revolutionize the student council to make it more active in the everyday affairs of the students
What function does Kealakehe ASB serve on our campus?
The Kealakehe ASB has been tasked with representing the students in the governance of our school and carrying out the will of the people. Ideally, the student council argues on behalf of the students when decisions are made by the school administration and seeks to address the everyday concerns of the students to increase the quality of our school experience.
Why do you want to be in ASB? What skills, talents, or qualifications do you have that would contribute to ASB?
It is time for student council to change from just a sentence on a college resume to a force that fights on behalf of the students. I am running because I believe these reforms must be made by somebody. I would bring revolutionary leadership and vision to the student council.
Share a challenge that you have faced (big or small). How did you handle the challenge? How did you grow from it?
A challenge I faced was when my little brother ate all of our vanilla ice cream. I handled this challenge by staring at him with a disappointed expression, which encouraged him to not eat the rest of our vanilla ice cream ever again. I grew from this challenge because now I can leave vanilla ice cream in the freezer without the fear of my brother eating it. Additionally, I resolved our dispute with successful negotiations that benefited both sides.

Yes I was in student council last year and at my church I help lead the younger girls in activities and talks.
What function does Kealakehe ASB serve on our campus?
It serves the purpose of us being the connector between students and all the higher ups at this is our way of getting our students voices heard. As well as being able to plan events to get students hyped and excited for school.
Why do you want to be in ASB? What skills, talents, or qualifications do you have that would contribute to ASB?
I want to be an inspiration and helpful, I have many good communications skills, I'm good at planning, helping with events and working with other people.
Share a challenge that you have faced (big or small). How did you handle the challenge? How did you grow from it?
One struggle I have faced is resolving arguments with my siblings. To solve this issue I decided to be the bigger person in the situation and be kind. I learned from this and by leading a good example my siblings follow and are kind to me.

I do not have any previous leadership experiences. I believe this is because I shied away from it due to my lack of communication skills and skills to perform in front of people I’m unfamiliar with. I’m working on those skills and i believe i still have a lot to work on, but i’m confident i’ll be able to handle it.
What function does Kealakehe ASB serve on our campus?
ASB serves not just our Kealakehe campus, but also our community. It serves in involving and connecting the community with organized events, and more. It serves by creating diversity and different forms of creativity throughout the community and our campus.
Why do you want to be in ASB? What skills, talents, or qualifications do you have that would contribute to ASB?
I want to be able to represent our community and campus by making students AND teachers feel welcome and safe. Like I said above, I believe communication skill is a very important skill to have throughout your lifetime. I am currently working on my communication skills, but I believe I have gotten way better and believe I can handle it.
Share a challenge that you have faced (big or small). How did you handle the challenge? How did you grow from it?
A challenge I have faced throughout school, especially my freshman year, is procrastination. It has affected me in many ways, like grades, social life, and school life in general. I’ve handled this challenge by being organized, jotting stuff down, constantly reminding myself of things I need to get done, and more. I believe it hit harder in my freshman year because that’s when covid hit hard, and when everything was online, which I wasn’t very used to. I’ve grown a lot from it and have learned to distance myself from the bad habit of procrastination, sometimes it still gets me but I don’t let it become this huge thing that sets me back two whole school days lol. It’s also changed my mindset a lottt.
