This past January, 12 delegates from Kealakehe High and Konawaena High School attended the Hawaii Secondary Student Conference at the State Capitol. The purpose of the Secondary Student Conference is to give students the opportunity to identify, discuss, and arrive at recommended solutions to current major youth problems, with emphasis on school-related problems, which require the attention and joint action by students, the Board of Education, the Department of Education, and the State Legislature. Delegates met our Lt. Governor, State Senators and State Representatives to discuss the issues facing Hawaii's youth. This three day conference also required delegates to research and debate current bills currently being discussed in the State Senate and House.
