Youth Ranger Internship Program

Hawai'i Island National Parks is preparing to recruit high school juniors and seniors for the 2017 Youth Ranger Internship Program. This is an 8-week training program that allows students to learn about conservation careers, job survival skills, and how to communicate effectively. The training program is scheduled to begin in February and will be once a week after school. Students will be paid $20 per session and snacks will be provided. They are especially looking for Asian/Pacific Islanders, students with financial need, or in foster care. Completion of this training program also qualifies interested students to apply for positions with the National Park Service in the summer at their various locations, where the pay is approximately $11 per hour. They can continue to work part-time throughout the school year, even if they go to college on the island. After completing a bachelor's degree, they can apply to be a ranger and will have a high chance of getting hired into this competitive field. Park rangers have good pay, benefits, and retirement!

How to Apply
Students must send a letter of interest that includes their name, grade level, school, phone number, and email address.
