in biology vocabulary terms that sound pretty similar chromosome chromatid chromatin transcription Translate mitosis meiosis when I was first learning about mitosis and meiosis both separately first and then I tried to figure out what was the same about them different matter stages by slipping through images you know what would have really helped me a side-by-side comparison that's what this video is assumed you already have a background of mitosis and meiosis videos on them but this video is a side by side Harrison presented in a split screen mitosis meiosis on the right along with the cytokinesis that follows the cytoplasm are making new cells mitosis in body cells meiosis results in sperm and egg cells mitosis and meiosis mitosis and meiosis is here is to end that means it has two sets of chromosomes in humans that's including one set of 23 chromosomes from month and one set of 23 chromosomes from 46 chromosomes during interphase the cell duplicates the chromosomes when you duplicate 46 chromosomes you still say there are 46 chromosomes duplicated portions is still attached at the centromere region but actually 92 chromatids interphase isn't part of mitosis or meiosis but it's a really important phase because it duplicate chromosomes before we get to point out it's really hard to draw 46 chromosomes going to use six chromosomes in our diagram so Mio straight was happening because it's much easier to draw visualize oh and just a fun fact some insects have six crows like mosquitoes unfortunately I'm not a fan of mosquitoes mosquitoes to both mitosis and meiosis stages but meiosis twice therefore has a number next to each peanut stage we're going to show some basic events for each peanut stage but please know that there is way more detail to explore than what we can include in this quick video prophase in mitosis in the stage comes before the others the chromosomes are visible you say they're condensing which means they are thickening prophase 1 in meiosis but the chromosomes are actually with the match up with their homologous pairs this means that the chromosomes are proximately the same size and they can each pair one came from Mom and one came from Dad in this formation chromosomes can transfer the genetic information between each other it's called crossing over you can make for what we call recombinant chromosomes metaphase in mitosis the nuclear envelope was already disassembled before metaphase even started I don't remember the end for Middle because of this stage the chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell in a single-file line metaphase 1 in meiosis the chromosomes are in the middle but they're still going to be in tears in the middle it's not a single file line anaphase in mitosis I like to think of the A4 away the chromatids are pulled away by the work of the spindles there moving to opposite sides of the cell anaphase 1 in meiosis same thing but in this case it's the chromosomes chromatids pulled away to opposite sides of the cell telophase in mitosis and telophase 1 in meiosis the chromosomes are actually the complete opposite end we are forming on each side to make two new cells and they're starting to surround the chromosomes on both sides is this will eventually form two cells cytokinesis follows it to the cytoplasm to complete the actual dividing of the the end of mitosis and cytokinesis with two identical diploid cells in humans they would both have 46 chromosomes this is great for organism growth after all after completing meiosis 1 and cytokinesis we have two haploid cells and they're not because of that crossing over during prophase 1 meiosis is also not done Must Go On on to my 52 prophase 2 chromosomes are condensing in both cells because they're not going to have homologous Pairs and crossing over but this time what songs are in a single-file line in mitosis away telophase 2 chromosome write the complete opposite ends and cytokinesis non-identical cells males make sperm cells in meiosis and females make egg cells in meiosis gametes are haploid meaning they have have the number of chromosomes if the original starting cell in the case of the resulting cells that each have 23 chromosomes when a sperm and egg cell combined it results into a diploid cell a fertilized egg otherwise known as a zygote which will then start a series of Divisions using mitosis to give rise to a brand new organism well that's it for the visitors to stay curious
