Principal's Message

The 4th quarter was an exciting, stressful and satisfying one for all of us at Kealakehe High School.  The Girls Varsity Swimming Team brought home the first team state championship for the school.  Other students excelled individually in athletics and in academics.  Several students made trips to Washington D.C. because of their outstanding academic efforts.

One of the greatest accomplishments for the Class of 2010 was that 100% of the graduates completed the Personal Transition Plan (PTP) and presented their works to a 3 member panel made up of staff members and volunteers from the community.  With their success, the Class of 2010 launched the school into a new era for public education; one that increases the graduation requirements for all students to be more rigorous.

Beginning with the class of 2010, all students receiving a State of Hawaii public school diploma must meet the increased credit requirements and earn the PTP credit.  Students striving to be valedictorian and the BOE Recognition Diploma must complete a Senior Project and present before a panel.

For the PTP, all students in grades 9-11 were required to save 14 pieces of Best Works in the ePortfolio.  They must also have 14 Best Works saved for SY 20010-11.  Additionally, all students need to update the required elements of the PTP.  Beginning in SY 2010-11, students must complete a sequence of 2 courses in World Languages, Fine Arts, or CTE as part of the new graduation requirements.

In order to participate in graduation exercises, aka “Walking The Line”, seniors must pass the Citizenship/Advisory course for all four years, be cleared of all obligations and not have any class A or B violations.  Seniors who have failed a year of Citizenship/Advisory will have the opportunity to make up those credits in the 2nd semester of SY 2010-11.

Finally, student schedules have been mailed home with the report cards.  Students, parents and guardians should be aware that no schedule changes will be allowed before Labor Day.  The exceptions are students who have earned credits by attending summer school or are new to the school.  Students receiving schedules that are incomplete will receive a phone call during the summer to schedule the missing class.  No counselors will be available during the summer break and before Aug. 2.  Fee payments are scheduled for July 19 and 20 from 3 – 7 PM.  There will be a parent orientation at 6PM on July 20.

Have a safe, restful and enjoyable summer.
